Privacy policy.

Last updated October 24, 2026.

This policy explains what information The Build Shelf (recommends.richardmireles.com), operated by Richard Mireles / Built From Within in Sacramento, California ("I", "me"), collects and how it's used. Short version: I collect as little as possible and I never sell your data.

Information you give me

• Field Notes newsletter: your email address, used only to send Field Notes and related updates from Built From Within. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
• Contact form or email: your name, email, and message, used only to reply to you.

Forms on this site are processed by my email newsletter provider and, if a contact form is enabled, by its form-handling provider. Those providers process the data on my behalf.

Information collected automatically

This site does not use advertising trackers. The hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and reliability. If I add analytics, I'll use a privacy-focused, cookie-free tool and update this page.

Amazon affiliate links and cookies

This site participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click an Amazon link, you leave this site, and Amazon may place or read cookies on your browser to attribute qualifying purchases. Amazon's use of data is governed by the Amazon Privacy Notice. Third parties, including Amazon, may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect or receive information from this website and elsewhere on the internet and use that information to provide measurement services and target ads.

Your California privacy rights

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA), California residents may request to know, correct, or delete the personal information I hold about them, and may opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. I do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a request, email richard.builtfromwithin@gmail.com. I won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Children

This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. I don't knowingly collect information from children.

Data retention and security

I keep newsletter emails until you unsubscribe and contact messages only as long as needed to respond. Reasonable measures are used to protect information, but no method of transmission is 100% secure.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, I'll update the date above. Questions: richard.builtfromwithin@gmail.com.
